When the User CAL is the right choice
Wherever one person works with several devices: a PC in the office, a notebook on the road, a phone in between. It is the usual choice for office workstations, field service and home office. Where several people share one device in shifts, on the other hand, the Device CAL is cheaper. Both types may be combined within the same company, and in practice this mix is the most economical.
The rule that is overlooked most often
Indirect access via an intermediate business application also requires a license. If software retrieves data from the server and passes it on to thirty clerks, all thirty need a CAL. The license agreement in your company's name, the transfer declaration covering your quantity, the previous owner's deletion confirmation and evidence of the chain of title. These documents are part of the delivery and cost nothing extra.
What happens if the quantity I need is unavailable?
Then we tell you before you start planning. The shortfall can often be sourced at short notice; where that is not realistic, we suggest an alternative or advise against it. We do not make commitments we cannot keep.
