Buy Microsoft Visio
Used Visio licenses in Standard and Professional as a perpetual license without a subscription, legally transferred and fully documented. For a tool used in the same version for years, the one-time license is clearly the better value over the monthly plan.

Pay once or pay monthly: the math for Visio
Visio is a tool with a long half-life. A network diagram, an organization chart or a process documentation is created once and then maintained, not reinvented. Anyone who works like that pays for years under a subscription for a feature set that hardly changes for them.
You pay for a perpetual license once and use it for as long as the version is supported. Spread the monthly amount of your plan over 36 or 60 months and set that against the one-time price. With a used volume license the entry price is below the new price, and the payback comes correspondingly sooner. Since Visio is usually needed at only a few workstations, the switch is also done quickly.
Standard or Professional
The Standard edition covers organization charts, flowcharts, schedules and simple network sketches. For most documentation tasks in the office it is sufficient.
Professional brings the templates for technical departments: process modeling according to standard notations, database and software diagrams, and the connection of diagrams to data sources. The extra cost is only worthwhile where formal modeling takes place.
Where the subscription remains the better choice
If several people are to work on the same diagrams at the same time, or you only need Visio for a time-limited project, the plan makes more sense. We tell you that even when it argues against a sale.
What to check before you buy

Separate from Office
Visio is not included in any Office edition and is always licensed on its own.
Licensed per device
Perpetual licenses for Visio are assigned to a device. Anyone who draws on two computers generally needs two licenses for that.
Viewing without a license of your own
Exported as a PDF or image file, diagrams can be read by colleagues without a license of their own. Visio is only needed for editing.
Professional only if needed
Formal notations and data connection require Professional, simple workflows do not. If in doubt, we ask what you intend to use it for.
Mind the end of support
Security updates are provided as long as the version is supported. We give you the date for every license.
Frequently asked questions
When does the perpetual license pay off compared with the plan?
As a rule of thumb: if you use Visio for more than about three years in the same version, the perpetual license is cheaper. With a used volume license the threshold moves forward again. Tell us your monthly amount and we will compare the two.
Is Visio included in Office?
No. Visio is always licensed separately, regardless of which Office edition you use.
Can colleagues without Visio view my diagrams?
Yes, if you export the diagrams as a PDF or image file. Visio is required for editing.
Do I need Professional for process diagrams?
Only if you model according to formal standard notations or want to link diagrams to data. Simple workflows can also be drawn with Standard.
Can I keep using older Visio files?
Newer versions open older files without problems. The reverse may involve limitations. If you maintain a large archive of older files, talk to us beforehand.
Can I transfer the license to a new computer?
With volume licenses, moving to another device within the company is usually possible. This is one of the main advantages over licenses that are tied permanently to the hardware.
